Cairo – Agencies:

Yesterday, Egyptian media reported that a new batch of aid had entered Gaza through the Rafah crossing. Cairo News Channel reported yesterday that this is the third batch of aid and includes medical and food supplies, noting that a large number of trucks had been prepared before entering. Aid convoys began entering the Gaza Strip through the Egyptian Rafah land crossing with the Strip since Saturday. The government media office in Gaza warned of signs of a humanitarian “catastrophe” as a result of the comprehensive closure imposed on the Strip. The media office said, in a statement, that the aid convoys that have arrived in Gaza so far are far less than the needs of the Gaza Strip, which was entered by more than 500 trucks loaded with various needs every day. As soon as the military planes turn off their engines after landing at Al-Arish Airport in North Sinai, workers rush to unload aid shipments sent to besieged Gaza.

Amid the clamor of issuing orders and the roar of cranes, shipments coming from several countries, including food and medicine, are loaded onto trucks that then head to the Rafah border crossing, Gaza’s only outlet to the outside world. For days now, cargo planes sent from Arab and foreign countries have been landing at Al-Arish Airport, which Egypt has designated to receive aid. Sent to Gaza, it is about 45 kilometers from the border crossing. Many trucks were forced to wait for days in front of the crossing or in the city of Al-Arish before the Rafah crossing was opened on Saturday for the first time after 15 days of siege, as three aid convoys crossed into the besieged Strip, which included about 50 trucks at a time. The United Nations indicated that Gazans need 100 trucks per day.
