Akbar Al Baker was born in Doha, Qatar. He is currently the GCEO of Qatar Airways. Al-Baker also leads the development of the Hamad International Airport, which opened its phase one in May 2014. Al-Baker holds a degree in Economics & Commerce which he gained in India.

»» He worked at various levels in the Civil Aviation Directorate before becoming Qatar Airways’ Chief Executive Officer in 1997.
»» Mr. Al Baker has spearheaded the growth of Qatar Airways, which operated only four aircraft in a regional capacity prior to his appointment. Qatar Airways currently flies a modern fleet more than 130 aircraft to more than 140 destinations across six continents.
»» He is also leading the development of the multi-billion dollar Hamad International Airport project, which open its first phase in May 2014 and is now home to Qatar Airways.
»» Mr Al Baker is a member of the Executive Committee of the Arab Air Carriers Organisation (AACO), a member of the Board of Governors of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and is a non-executive Director of Heathrow Airport Holdings. AACO is the organisation responsible for the development of the airline industry in the Arab world, IATA is the world regulatory body of airlines, and HAH is the company responsible for the running and development of UK’s largest airport.
»» A highly motivated individual, Mr. Al Baker has been a successful businessman in Doha for more than 25 years, holds a private pilot licence, and is also Group Chief Executive of several divisions of Qatar’s national airline – these being Qatar Airways Holidays, Qatar Aviation Services, Qatar Duty Free Company, Doha International Airport, Qatar Distribution Company, Qatar Executive, Oryx Rotana Hotel and Qatar Aircraft Catering Company.
