The man said that he was surprised to learn about the accumulation of traffic violations.
A young GCC national had to pay Dh343,000 for traffic violations committed with his car, which is valued at Dh400,000.
The man already paid up Dh98,000 in his home country and paid the rest of the amount to the Dubai Traffic Department in order to retrieve his vehicle which had been confiscated for the offences.
According to him, his brother and a friend are the ones who committed the large number of traffic violations, while driving his vehicle.
The man, who was studying law in the UAE, said that he was surprised to learn about the accumulation of traffic violations. He noted that the majority of violations were for speeding and parking in illegal spots.
He noted that this particular case had the highest traffic violations amount recorded by the traffic department, as the man has paid the biggest amount for violations recorded over a period of two years.
He said that after activating the electronic system for cars that carry GCC number plates, the traffic police have been monitoring the ones that have recorded a large number of traffic violations. This enables the department to contact the car owners before they leave the UAE.
Before the auction is organised and announced on the Dubai Police website, the car’s owner will be informed to contact the department in order to pay the fines.
