Summary

Southeast Asia’ most dynamic and stimulating city, Bangkok presents a heady mix of the modern and the ancient. In this Thailand’s capital city, the skyscrapers share space with traditional wooden homes, the urban development rubs its shoulders with traditional beliefs and customs. From a small 15th century trading spot to Thailand’s political, economic, educational, media and tourism hub, Bangkok has seen a rapid growth in the 1960s through the 1980s. Though the city has witnessed enormous growth over the years, it’s still struggling with the traffic problem.

Canal cross roads connect older quarters such as the royal island of Rattanakosin and heaving Chinatown with hotel and condominium filled districts around Sukhumvit, Silom, and Sathorn roads. Bangkok presents a concoction of various shades of life that give the ‘City of Angels’ its rich, multifaceted personality.

Apart from being one of the most frequented tourist destinations in Southeast Asia, Bangkok is also famous as foodies’ and shopaholics’ paradise. Until one has eaten on a Bangkok street, the noodles mingling with sweat, and one’s senses dulled by chilly, exhaust and noise, one has not actually eaten real Thai food. The language sometime becomes a barrier, but it never prevents people from loving the Thai populace.
