Doha 2019: ministers visit Khalifa International Stadium

In the presence of HE the Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee of IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019 Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani, HE the Minister of Culture and Sports Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser al-Ali and HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mohamed Abdul Wahed Ali al-Hammadi visited yesterday Khalifa International Stadium which will host the championship competitions due to kick off on Friday.
More than 3,000 athletes representing 209 countries from around the world are taking part in the championship.
The ministers listened to a presentation by the organising committee on the accomplished work and preparations, including engineering and logistical aspects to keep abreast of the highest standards for hosting the championship at the stadium with its various facilities equipped with the innovative cooling technology to host the world’s biggest sporting event which is held in the Middle East for the first time.
HE the Minister of Culture and Sports praised the great efforts of organising committee.
He also praised the preparations for organising the tournament in a way that reflects the leading position of Qatar in sports.
He thanked HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani and praised the level of readiness to receive participants and guests, which confirms the distinguished international status the State of Qatar enjoys.
The minister noted the important role of volunteers in organising the tournament, and wished all the world champions success in Doha, expressing the hope that the champions of Qatar will achieve good results during this event and honour their country in this important international sports tournament.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the IAAF Independent Athletics Integrity Unit, David Howman, praised the great support and co-operation the Unit has found from the organising committee and the local anti-doping committee.
Howman said in a statement yesterday that the IAAF’s Athletics Integrity Unit will work in partnership with the local organising committee and Qatar anti-doping committee to provide an integrated and unprecedented programme in 10 days of the competition, which will begin on Friday and continue until October 6.
