FIFA praised the opening of the Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium yesterday evening, by hosting the Prince’s Cup final between Al Sadd and Al Arabi.

His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the country, presented the list of attendees at the opening ceremony, which witnessed the final match with a crowd of 20,000 fans, the largest in the world in light of the (Covid-19) pandemic.

FIFA said on its website that Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium hosted the 48th Emir Cup Final on Qatar’s National Day, becoming the fourth FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 â„¢ stadium to be opened. The opening of the stadium today corresponds exactly two years to the Qatar 2022 Final.

He added: The stadium – which will become the new headquarters of Al Rayyan Sports Club – is the fourth stadium to announce its readiness to receive the FIFA World Cup â„¢, the first of its kind in the Middle East and the Arab world, after announcing the readiness of Khalifa International Stadium, the South and Education City, and will host this stadium. Which can accommodate forty thousand spectators 7 matches after the start of Qatar 2022 and until the round of 16 of the tournament.

He said that the final match between Al-Sadd and Al-Arabi started after a joyful party before the match that included several musical and cultural performances and stunning visual effects.

FIFA referred to the presence of FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who in turn praised the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy for the successful completion of another stadium in the Qatar 2022 tournament.

Infantino said the stadium is great and the situation is great here with these seats very close to the pitch, even with our physical distancing, I felt the passion for the game, I am sure it will be an ideal place for football in 2022 when it hosts the World Cup matches.

He added: I would like to congratulate Qatar for completing this World Cup project, as it is excellently prepared to host its next edition, and is on the right track to host an unforgettable chapter of the tournament – the first of its kind in the Middle East and the Arab world, and the second in Asia.
