‘Flying Hospital’ Launched in London as Part of ‘Qatar Creating Vision’ Initiative

London, July 19 – The new ‘flying hospital’ was launched in London as part of the joint ‘Qatar Creating Vision’ initiative signed between Qatar Development Fund (QDF) and Orbis foundation for the eye treatment of millions of children in developing countries.

The inauguration ceremony was held at the Royal Air Force Club in London and attended by HRH Princess Sophie Rhys-Jones, the Countess of Wessex, and HE Qatar’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom Yousef bin Ali Al Khater and a number of dignitaries.

The flying hospital has a state-of-the-art operating rooms and features fully accredited eye hospital with technology that can transmit live surgeries around the world in 3D. It also includes clinics, emergency rooms, a lecture hall and observation room of high efficiency standards for children with eye diseases and at risk of blindness.

At the end of the ceremony, chairman of Orbis foundation Peter Hickson presented to the Embassy of the State of Qatar a model of the aircraft, and thanked all those who contributed and supported the foundation programs, particularly the State of Qatar saying that the contribution of the State of Qatar brought a smile and restored eyesight to many and provided them with a bright future.
