Two Qatar World Cup stadiums among sites to get new power substations
German engineering company Siemens has been awarded a contract by Kahramaa to build three substations in Qatar, including two at upcoming 2022 World Cup stadium sites.
The company announced the project yesterday, saying it will supply three 132/11kV substations as part of Phase 11 of the Qatar Power Transmission System Expansion project.
The first substation will be called Al Wukair-1 and located inside of Al Wakrah stadium Boulevard, about 10km from Doha.
The second, Al Heedan, will supply power to the Al Khor stadium. Both stadiums are slated for completion in 2018.
The third substation, Learaig, will be built at an upcoming beach resort on Salwa Road, near the Saudi Arabian border, the company said.
