Salary raises across Qatar in 2016 to be lowest in five years

Qatar employers are expected to show more restraint when doling out raises in 2016 compared to past years thanks to a slowing economy, a new report has found.

Qatari families earn almost three times as much as expats

The average Qatari household earns QR72,700 ($19,918) a month, nearly three times the average expat household income of QR24,400 ($6,685), new figures from the Ministry of Development and Planning Statistics (MDPS) show.

Why Paying A Good Salary In Qatar Is Not Always Enough

According to The HSBC Expat Explorer Report for 2014, Qatar ranks at 13th out of 34 countries as the best expat destinations to relocate.

Our studies show that the biggest threat to an expats financial stability in Qatar is the increase in housing rentals. In Qatar, an average of 40% of an expats salary is going toward rental. This is compared to the global average of 19%.

What is a good Salary and package?
Well it all depends on your particular situation

Here’s a rough guide:

Single:

9,000-10,000 QAR Basic Salary

7,500 QAR with Company Accomodation

1,500 QAR transportation (your package should include health care coverage, and furniture allowance (if applicable) and plane tickets home)

Note:

Sadly construction workers and house hold helpers getting below 1000 QAR. Most firms in Qatar offering below 1500 QAR to Drivers.

For Family (A couple with no children or 1 small child):

12,000 QAR basic salary

7,500 QAR housing allowance

1,500 QAR Transportation allowance

Your package should also include a furniture allowance, health and Medical Coverage, free tickets to your home country per year for at least yourself, spouse, and three children.

Also if your child is in school you will need a subsidy on their education. This will allow you to live in a modest 2-bdrm apartment with a decent lifestyle and allow you to save some money per month – that amount will be dependent on yourself.
