His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met today with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, on the sidelines of the sixth summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (SICA) in Astana, the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations in various fields, in addition to the latest developments of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and its repercussions on global food security and the energy market. His Highness renewed Qatar’s support for all international and regional efforts to find an immediate peaceful solution to this crisis.
In this context, the State of Qatar stresses the need to respect the sovereignty of states and to abide by the United Nations Charter and the well-established principles of international law, including obligations under the Charter to settle international disputes by peaceful means.
The meeting also dealt with the situation in Libya and Syria, and the latest developments in the negotiations to return to the joint action plan with the United States of America.
The meeting was attended by H Your Excellencies members of the official delegation.
On the Russian side, HE Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Assistant to the President of the Republic Yury Ushakov, Deputy Director of the Russian Cabinet Spokesman Dmitry Peskov, and Minister of Economic Development Maksim Reshetnikov were also present.
