Hezbollah targets Israeli barracks after Islamist commander’s death
Lebanon’s Hezbollah militant group said Sunday it had targeted a military position in northern Israel with an armed drone in response to the killing of an Islamist commander.
Israel and the powerful Iran-backed group, a Hamas ally, have exchanged near-daily cross-border fire since the Gaza war erupted on October 7.
Hezbollah’s announcement came hours after it published a video excerpt purporting to show locations in Israel along with their coordinates, amid heightening fears of an all-out conflict between the two foes.
On Saturday, the Jamaa Islamiya group announced the death of one of its commanders, Ayman Ghotmeh, saying he was killed “in a treacherous Zionist raid” in Khiara in Lebanon’s eastern Bekaa area.

Israeli forces tie wounded Palestinian to jeep in West Bank raid
Israeli troops tied a wounded Palestinian man to a military vehicle during a raid in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin, the army said Sunday, admitting that soldiers had violated operational procedures.
Footage of the incident, which occurred on Saturday, has gone viral and shows a Jenin resident strapped horizontally to the bonnet of a military jeep as it passes through a narrow alley.
Medics identified the Palestinian as Mujahid Fayyad from the Jabriyat neighbourhood located between the town of Burqin and Jenin.
The military said the Palestinian was wounded during a “counterterrorism operation” launched in the area of Wadi Burqin to apprehend wanted suspects.
During an exchange of fire between troops and militants, one of the suspects was wounded and apprehended, the military said in a statement.
“In violation of orders and standard operating procedures, the suspect was taken by the forces while tied on top of a vehicle,” the statement said.
“The conduct of the forces in the video of the incident does not conform to the values of the IDF (military),” it added.

At least 39 people killed in Israeli strikes across northern Gaza, officials say
At least 39 people were killed by Israeli strikes across northern Gaza on Saturday, as rescue workers scrambled to find survivors beneath the rubble, according to Palestinian and hospital officials.
Fadel Naem, director of the al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City, told The Associated Press that more than three dozen bodies arrived at the hospital.
The Palestinian Civil Defence, an emergency group active in Gaza, said its emergency workers were digging for survivors at the site of a strike in the Shati refugee camp west of Gaza City and that it had pulled several dozen bodies from a building hit by an Israeli strike in an eastern neighborhood of Gaza City.
Israel said Saturday that its fighter jets struck two Hamas military sites in the Gaza City area but did not elaborate further.

Aerial drone likely launched by Yemen’s Houthi rebels hits ship in the Red Sea
An aerial drone likely launched by Yemen’s Houthi rebels struck and damaged a vessel in the Red Sea on Sunday, officials said, the latest attack by the group targeting the vital maritime corridor.
The attack comes as the US has sent the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower back home after an eight-month deployment that saw it lead the American response to the Houthi assaults.
Those attacks have seen shipping drastically drop through the route crucial to Asian, Middle East and European markets in a campaign the Houthis say will continue as long as the Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip rages on.
The drone attack happened around dawn off the coast of the rebel-held port city of Hodeida, the British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations centre said. It said the vessel sustained damage but its mariners on board “were reported safe”. It did not elaborate on the extent of the damage, but said an investigation was ongoing.
