Italy decides to take new measures to tackle water crisis

ATHENS

Italy decided Wednesday to take new measures to tackle the ongoing water crisis in the country, according to a statement form the prime minister’s office.

During a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, it was decided to form a control room in the Prime Minister’s Office which will oversee drawing up a new plan on the matter, according to the statement.

The plan will be decided in consultation with regional and local administrations to determine what role they can play.

A nationwide awareness campaign on the responsible use of water resources will be launched and an extraordinary commissioner with executive powers to be named, according to the plan.

Participating in the meeting were Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, Agriculture Minister Francesco Lollobrigida, Minister of European Affairs Raffaele Fitto, Minister of Environment Gilberto Pichetto Fratina and others.​​​​​​​
