Jaish wallop Shamal 5-1; Al Arabi stun Ahli 2-0
Lekhwiya eye Qatar Stars League title win today
Doha – El Jaish condemned relegated Al Shamal to a 5-1 drubbing in a 24th round match of the Qatar Stars League at the Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Stadium in Doha on Friday.
Brazilian striker Romario Ricardo De Silva was the star of the match scoring a double for El Jaish. Abdulqadir Ilyas and Mohammed Muntari scored the other two goals. Al Shamal managed to score a consolation goal in the third minute of injury time. Earlier, Sultan Saleem scored own-goal into his own net.
El Jaish remain in third place with 44 points. The win was their 14th of the season, only matched by Al Sadd and bettered by Lekhwiya who have won 17 games with two matches to go to end the season. On the other side of the table, Al Shamal are automatically relegated after this result. They have only won once this season and collected a paltry 10 points.
Elsewhere, Al Arabi recorded a vital 2-0 win against Al Ahli at the Al Arabi Stadium. Al Arabi’s Brazilian duo of Sergio Junior and Paulinho scored both the goals in the 63rd and 76th minute respectively. Ashkan Dejagah was adjudged the man of the match.
