A man in Afghanistan has cut off his young wife’s ears because he suspected her of talking to other men during her visits to her parents.
Zarina, the 23-year-old wife, was taken to a hospital in critical condition; having lost a lot of blood. She is now in a stable but traumatized condition, according to hospital director Noor Mohammad Faiz.
“Both her ears are cut. We will try to treat her here. If not, she needs to be taken abroad,” Faiz said.
According to Independent, the victim, who lives in the province of Balkh, north of Afghanistan, kept asking why her husband did it to her. She said he woke her up in the middle of the night and tied her before cutting both her ears.
“I haven’t committed any sin, Zarina said. “I don’t know why my husband did this to me.”
In an interview with local reporters, Zarina, who married her husband when she was only 13, said she no longer want to remain married to him.
“My husband always treats me badly. He is a very suspicious man and often accused me of talking to strange men when I went to visit my parents,” she said; adding she wants him arrested.
The husband fled after incident and is now the object of a police manhunt.
