New Hamad Port to start operating on December 24

Operations at the new Hamad Port will begin on December 24 with limited types of ships and cargoes, The Ministry of Transport said yesterday.

The Peninsula reports that once fully operational, Hamad Port’s capacity will be six million containers a year.

It will be connected with other GCC countries through road, sea and rail networks, and this is an additional value for Qatar’s ports in general.

The port will be able to handle 1.7 million tons of general goods, one million tons of food grains and 500,000 vehicles. It will also has a general cargo terminal, a multi-use terminal, an offshore supply base, a coast guard facility, and a port marine unit.
