To address the parking space woes in the country the Ministry of Transport and Communications has begun work on an ambitious pilot project which would entail building of multi-storey parking lots, the parking lots will be equipped with technologies which will allow people to check for space and reserve a slot online.
The said parking lots will be connected through a smart system which will enable motorists to check the parking space availability status through their smart phones and also reserve a slot for their cars in advance.
“The plan for vehicle parking facilities has been chalked out by the Ministry under the National Strategy for Traffic Safety” the Assistant Undersecretary for Road Transport at The Minister of Transport and Communications, Rashid Talib Al Nabit said.
The work on these projects was started at the beginning of this year. The project has taken the opinions of people, which were collected via a survey, regarding the location of the parking facilities. The size and type of vehicles in the country have been taken into consideration during planning these facilities.
“The parking facilities are being built to suit the needs of the country and a lot of thought has been put into them”, he added.
“The facilities will be equipped with latest technologies, which will enable motorists to book parking space in advance for a specific date and time in the most convenient way possible”, he pointed out.
The project is part of National Strategy for Traffic Safety, 10 plans of which were made public by the Ministry. Out of ten, three plans have already been implemented, which are: Qatar Guide for Road Design, Qatar Guide for Traffic Control, and the third being construction of tracks for bicycles, which focusses on sustainable transport system.
