Qatar Charity continues to implement the Bin Zamil Eye Hospital project in the White Nile State of Sudan at an estimated cost of nearly QR2million, with the aim to benefit more than 800,000 people in the country. The projects come with the support from the people in Qatar as part of the willingness of Qatar Charity to carry out qualitative development projects in Sudan.
The Bin Zamil Eye Hospital will contribute to providing quality facilities for the treatment of eye diseases to help ease suffering of patients as they have to go to health centres located far away from their places of residence. Also, the hospital will offer almost free services for eye patients with limited income.
The hospital project is under implementation in Kosti located in the White Nile State, which is 321 kilometres away from the capital Khartoum.
The project place was chosen due to the urgent need of the region for good infrastructure for the treatment of eye patients, and the significant shortage of hospitals and health facilities in the area, in addition to the widespread prevalence of eye diseases and the inability of many patients to pay the treatment costs.
Kosti is a border area with South Sudan. According to current statistics, there are more than 100,000 refugees in the area, who are expected to benefit from the hospital’s service.
The Bin Zamil Eye Hospital is a two-storey building. The first floor consists of a general clinic, an operating room, a laboratory, a pharmacy and an eyeglasses shop, while the second floor includes administration buildings, a doctors’ lounge and a multi-purpose hall.
Since its opening in 1994 until April 2019, Qatar Charity’s office in Sudan has contributed to the implementation of more than 100 projects in the field of health in nine states of the country at an estimated cost of more than 26 million Qatari riyals, benefiting hundreds of thousands of people. Also, many projects are under implementation in the country.
It is worth mentioning that the White Nile State of Sudan has benefited from the relief assistance provided by Qatar Charity recently to flood
victims.
