Experts and businessmen said that Qatar has become a leading regional and international destination for hosting the most prominent events, which in turn contribute to stimulating the results of the tourism sector. They pointed out that the country possesses infrastructure with international specifications to host sports tournaments, exhibitions, conferences and forums.
They added to Al-Raya Al-Eqtisadiah: Doha’s hosting of the 2023 Geneva International Motor Show as the first edition to be held outside Switzerland reflects the great position that Qatar occupies in this vital sector, as the history of this ancient exhibition extends for about 100 years, and its activities from October 5 to 14 are expected to attract… Nearly 200 thousand visitors. They noted that the Qatar Airways Formula 1 Grand Prix, which was hosted by the Losail Circuit over 3 days during the period from the sixth to the eighth of this October, attracted large numbers of tourists, especially from Europe, and the tournament contributed to achieving a jump in tourism results.
They explained that Expo Doha 2023 consolidates Qatar’s global position as a leading destination for hosting the most prominent events. The exhibition is expected to attract three million visitors, and its activities will extend over an area of 1.7 million square meters in the scenic Al Bidda Park with the participation of organizers from 80 countries. The exhibition will be held from this October. Until March 2024.
They pointed out that the activities of the “City Stadium Forum” on Lusail Trail, which is being held within the framework of the activities of the Geneva International Motor Show Qatar 2023, from October 12 to 14, attracted large numbers of audiences, stressing that The city of Lusail has great tourism potential.
They revealed that a large number of hotels and restaurants were able to achieve occupancy rates that reached 100% in conjunction with the Geneva International Motor Show – Qatar and the Qatar Airways Formula 1 Grand Prix, and they expressed their optimism that tourist facilities will continue their strong performance during the coming months of November and December. .

Mr. Ahmed Hussein, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tourist Travel and Tourism Company, expressed his happiness with the tourism sector achieving strong results during the last quarter of the current year, supported by hosting prominent sporting events and tournaments, perhaps the most prominent of which are the Qatar Airways Formula 1 Grand Prix and the Geneva International Motor Show. .
He said: In addition to major sporting events, this month of October witnesses the launch of a group of international art exhibitions, important trade fairs, and the holding of performances, singing and musical concerts, etc., which meet all tastes and interests, suit various groups and ages, and stimulate the performance of the tourism sector. He added: Qatar is a leading destination for hosting major international events, as the country has all the capabilities to organize championships, sports races, international exhibitions, festivals and entertainment events, stressing that hotels, restaurants, car rental companies and other various economic sectors have been able to achieve strong results thanks to hosting these events.

Mr. Adel Al Hail, CEO of Asia Travel and Tourism Company, stressed the need for Qatar Tourism to organize a calendar of events throughout the year to stimulate the performance of the tourism sector and exploit the global infrastructure that Qatar possesses, pointing out that the Qatar Airways Formula 1 Grand Prix race and the exhibition Geneva International Airport, hotel and restaurant occupancy rates jumped to 100%. He said that the performance of the tourism sector witnessed a significant jump during this October with the support of the organization of leading international events, expressing his optimism that the sector will continue its strong results during the months of November and December, in conjunction with hosting the Qatar International Travel and Tourism Exhibition, in addition to the country’s National Day celebrations.
Al-Hail added: Qatar is witnessing a significant increase in the flow of tourists from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, especially from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Mr. Jaber Al Mansouri, CEO of Al Maraya Exhibitions and Conferences Organisation, said: The tourism sector was able to achieve strong results this October with the support of organizing a rich calendar of events, perhaps the most prominent of which is the Qatar Airways Formula 1 Grand Prix, the Geneva International Motor Show, in addition to the Doha Expo. 2023.
He added: The Geneva International Motor Show – Qatar is a true car festival, as it is accompanied and coincided with a group of immersive experiences that are held in the most prominent tourist destinations in the country, which are the “Future Design Forum” at the National Museum of Qatar, and desert adventures at the “Celine Adventure Forum.” And enjoyable driving experiences on the Losail International Circuit, as well as the “Classic Car Exhibition” and the “Walk of Excellence” on the famous Losail Trail.
Al Mansouri pointed out that the Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix, which was held at the famous Losail International Circuit and concluded its activities on October 8, attracted large numbers of visitors, whether from Europe or the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, which contributed to stimulating the performance of hotels, restaurants and all other tourist facilities.
He explained that Qatar has an advanced infrastructure for the tourism sector, which includes the finest hotels, resorts, beaches, entertainment cities with international standards, the best airline in the world, and Hamad International Airport, which won the Best in the World award for the second year in a row.
Al Mansouri noted that the new hotels, resorts and beaches represent a qualitative shift in the tourism sector, but they must be promoted by the concerned authorities to increase the flow rates of tourists to Qatar.
157% growth in visitors to Qatar
The State of Qatar received more than 2.56 million visitors from January to August 25, 2023, exceeding its total number of visitors during the entire year of 2022, and recording a 157% increase in the number of international visitors compared to the same period last year .
This significant growth in the number of visitors to the State of Qatar reflects the country’s rising status as a leading tourist destination in the world, also supported by the great success it achieved following the successful hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which highlighted Qatar on the international tourism map.
