The Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani and Italian President Sergio Mattarella discussed bilateral relations and the means to develop them in various fields, especially investment, education and health, during the official talks at the presidential palace (The Quirinale) in Rome on Monday.
A number of regional and international issues, including the Gulf crisis, Libya and Palestine, were discussed during the talks. Both sides emphasised the need to resolve the crisis through dialogue and diplomatic means.
In a joint statement issued after the talks, the Amir said the Qatari-Italian relations are strong and have developed greatly in several areas such as investment in recent years.
“There is continuity in the positions of the two countries on many issues. There is development in bilateral relations, especially in the economic field,” the Amir said, pointing to the presence of many Italian companies in Qatar for years.
The Amir said there are major future projects in Qatar related to the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the 2022 World Cup, and the Italian companies are welcome to participate in these projects.
The Amir said he discussed with the Italian president cooperation in the field of health, culture and education. Several important issues in the region, most notably the Gulf crisis, also came up fort discussion. The two sides agreed that the crisis can only be resolved through unconditional dialogue.
The Amir thanked Italy for organising the Palermo International Conference on Libya in which Qatar participated, hoping that its results would be positive and that there would be a solution soon.
For his part, the Italian president said Qatar is an important partner in the sensitive and important Gulf region.”The bilateral relations are positive and steady and have become more effective in various sectors, especially economy, trade, science, technology and culture,” he said.
