Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani witnessed Qatar Radio 50th anniversary (Golden Jubilee) celebration on Sunday.
The ceremony was attended by Speaker of the Shura Council HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud, a number of sheikhs and ministers, senior officials of Qatar Foundation for Media and employees of the Foundation’s radio and television channels and a number of members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the State.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman of Qatar Media Corporation HE Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer al Thani said, “Since its inception, the radio has contributed to enriching awareness and culture in the community and has witnessed important stages in the country’s history.”
He praised the role of the first generation who took over the responsibility of the radio from the citizens and Arabs who contributed to the establishment of the radio, which has developed over 50 years in line with progress in the media sector in the country from high professionalism in keeping up with events and excellence in performance.
“This development and achievement would not have been possible without the continued care of our wise leadership. The radio project was the first media seed that introduced Qatar to its surroundings, and today, we remember the first pioneers to give them their right for what they did in the march of the radio and the Qatari media,” he said.
Executive Chairman of Qatar Media Corporation HE Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad al Thani praised the efforts of the first generation of the radio who exerted their efforts to extend Qatar Radio broadcasting to the society and the region.
He then honoured former directors, radio staff, artists and people with a footprint in the development of Qatar Radio, as well as a number of organisations in the country.
A documentary film about Qatar Radio history and origins of the radio since 1968, through its stages of development and future projects was broadcast at the occasion.
