Qatar records 7% rise in foreign visitors in the first half of 2015
For the first half of 2015, Qatar received a 7% increase in foreign visitors as compared to the same period last year. Majority of visitors comprised GCC residents, representing a 16% increase since last year.
The figures were issued by the Qatar Tourism Authority in its Mid-Year Tourism Performance Report for 2015. The report, as published in Gulf Times, highlights Qatar’s progress in expanding its tourism sector. The country is expected to receive 3 million visitors by end of this year as it seeks to achieve a target of 7 million visitors by 2030.
From the GCC region, a large percentage of visitors arrived from Saudi Arabia, representing a 25% increase since last year. Meanwhile, the countries outside of GCC that had the maximum number of tourists included France, China and the USA.
