Rayyan assert supremacy with 16th League triumph

Armond Bolds scored a game-high 30 points as Al Rayyan overcame a last quarter scare before beating El Jaish 78-84 to clinch the Men’s League title for the 16th time in 18 years at the Al Gharafa Indoor Hall last evening.

Bolds was in devastating form as he scored 11 field goals from 17 attempts, which included two three-pointers, to torment El Jaish at will, while Dominic Davon and Aloyius Ewing shot 18 and 11 respectively. Bolds also drained six of his six free throws which also proved key to the outcome.

In yet another thrilling and physical match which witnessed a great deal of pushing and shoving – the teams were 1-1 after two close two games in the best-of-three finals – Al Rayyan had to summon all their experience to edge out a gallant El Jaish who looked dead and buried when they fell behind 49-29 at the end of the second quarter.
But El Jaish fought back to close the gap to 12 points by scoring a whopping 22 points in the third quarter while restricting Al Rayyan to just 14.
