Rayyan reclaim top spot in QSL
Doha – Maintaining their perfect record in the Qatar Stars League, Al Rayyan laboured to a late 2-0 victory over Mesaimeer at the Al Gharafa Stadium on Friday.
Goals from the Uruguayan Gonzalo Vierra and Spanish Sergio Garcia ensured the Lions return to the top of the table with a maximum 12 points to lead their closest rival Al Sadd who are on ten. Lekwiya are in third place after winning their third consecutive game, beating Al Sailiya 2-0. Al Arabi, now in fourth place, dropped points for the first time after losing 1-0 against Gharafa.
Anything other than the maximum points for the resurgent giants would have guaranteed Al Sadd stay on top this weekend after their master-class performance over Al Ahli on Thursday, with Xavi Hernandez and Hassan Haydos hitting the bull’s eye.
