Total eyes 300,000 bpd Al Shaheen oilfield: CEO

French oil and gas company Total is interested in the future operation and development of Al Shaheen oilfield and has submitted a bid, Chairman and CEO Patrick Pouyanne has said.

Speaking to reporters on Monday to mark Total’s 80 years of operations in Qatar, Pouyanne said the company has been heavily involved in Qatar’s petroleum industry and would continue to do so whenever there is an opportunity.

He said Total is looking forward to the outcome of the bids.

The Al Shaheen oilfield is located 80 km off the country’s shores and is one of the largest oilfields. It currently produces around 300,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd) and is operated by Maersk Oil Qatar under a 25-year exploration and development agreement put into effect in 1992.

In May last year, Qatar Petroleum (QP) had issued invitations to a group of leading international oil and gas firms to compete for the future operation and development of the oilfield.
