Iranian President Raisi says action, not words needed on Gaza
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said on Saturday that the time had come for action over the conflict in Gaza rather than talk as he headed to Saudi Arabia to attend a summit on the crisis.

“Gaza is not an arena for words. It should be for action,” Raisi said at Tehran airport before departing for Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.

“Today, the unity of the Islamic countries is very important,” he added.

Huge crowds expected for London pro-Palestinian rally, police gear for trouble
Hundreds of thousands of protesters are expected to join a pro-Palestinian march in London on Saturday, a rally Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has criticised as disrespectful amid concerns it could spark violence on the day of remembrance for war veterans.

The “National March for Palestine” is the fourth to be staged in the British capital since the October 7 Hamas attacks on Israel, but ministers have said it should to be cancelled as it coincides with Armistice Day, which marks the end of World War One, and commemorations for those killed in military action.

Police have said they will have almost 2,000 officers on duty, vowing to crack down on any disorder caused either by those involved in the march or a counter-protest by opposing right-wing groups and veterans.

Saudi Arabia to host extraordinary joint Islamic-Arab summit on Saturday
Saudi Arabia will host an extraordinary joint Islamic-Arab summit in Riyadh on Saturday, the Saudi foreign ministry said late on Friday.

The kingdom was scheduled to host two extraordinary summits, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation summit and the Arab League summit, on Saturday. The joint summit will replace the two separate gatherings, the ministry said.

The joint meeting “will be held in response to the exceptional circumstances taking place in the Palestinian Gaza Strip as countries feel the need to unify efforts and come out with a unified collective position,” it said.

The decision was taken after the Kingdom consulted with the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, according to the statement.

Key developments from Friday, November 10:
The WHO said on Friday that 20 hospitals in Gaza were now out of action. The biggest hospital in the Gaza Strip was coming under bombardment on Friday, the World Health Organization said, adding that 20 hospitals in the Palestinian enclave were now out of action entirely.

US President Joe Biden said on Friday that humanitarian pauses were ‘a step in the right direction’. Israel has agreed to humanitarian “pauses” in its offensive on Hamas in Gaza after pressure from the US, said Biden, welcoming “a step in the right direction”.

Health officials in the Hamas-run enclave said on Friday that more than 11,078 people, including 4,506 children, have been killed since the start of Israel’s military operation. The number of wounded has rised to 27,490, according to the Gaza health ministry. Israel meanwhile revised its October 7 Hamas attack death toll from 1, 400 to “around 1,200” people. Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Lior Haiat said it was “an updated estimate”.

More than 100,000 residents of the Gaza Strip have fled southwards over the last two days as Israeli forces operate “deep in Gaza City”, said chief Israeli military spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari on Friday.
