First Swedish victory in women’s World Cup slalom

Maria Pietilä Holmner of Sweden won the Alpine Skiing World Cup Åre Women’s Slalom contest, defending her lead after the first run and beating rival Tina Maze of Slovenia by six-hundredths of a second.

Swedish Radio Sports News reports that this is the first time Sweden has won this particular contest.

Maze came in second, and the Swede Frida Hansdotter came in third.
