Qatar has decided to cancel Qatar National Day celebration in solidarity with the people of Aleppo.
Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani announced the decision to cancel the Qatar National Day (QND) celebrations, QNA reportred.
Qatar is reportedly preparing to heavily scale down national day celebrations in solidarity with the people suffering in the Syrian city of Aleppo.
All activities on the Corniche that was to be held during national have been cancelled.
Qatar has opted to cancel festive traditional activities like singing and Ardah at Darb Al Saai, the main venue for national day activities, in solidarity with the painful events happening in Aleppo. The venue, however, will remain open for other activities till December 20th as planned.
The decision comes following the tragic situation in Aleppo where civilians have been enduring the agony of years of fighting and months of bitter siege and bombardment.
Qatar had also called for an emergency meeting of the Arab League Council to discuss Aleppo’s dire situation. The details of the meeting discussions have not been announced yet.
Scores of civilians were killed by Syrian regime forces in opposition-held areas in eastern Aleppo in the past two days.
There will not be any celebrations including any Ardha dance or music, fireworks or National Day parade on December 18, Central Municipal Council (CMC) Hamad Lahdan Al Mohannadi said.
The day (December 18) remains a public holiday for government and private offices.
