US President Trump signed an executive order to change the name from the Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America after taking office. Recently, Google Maps changed the name to “Gulf of America” for American users according to a Google blog. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Feb 13 demanded that Google reconsider its decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico. As per Sheinbaum, the change reflects a unilateral decision by the US government, which she argues is not recognized internationally.
