Rabat – The Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE) is organizing a roadshow in the People’s Republic of China starting today, April 17 until April 23. The event’s aim is to promote Morocco as a destination among Chinese investors, AMDIE said in a statement.

Delegate Minister for Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies Mohcine Jazouli, and AMDIE’s General Manager Ali Seddiki will lead the Moroccan delegation in this promotional campaign.

The event is part of the multidimensional strategic partnership concluded in 2016 under the leadership of King Mohammed VI and Chinese President Xi Jinping, AMDIE’s statement added, noting that the agreement has already strengthened bilateral relations between the two countries and broadened the scope of their cooperation.

The kick-off of this roadshow is held in Shanghai, China’s financial hub, where Mohcine Jazouli is scheduled to take part in several business meetings with major decision-makers and representatives of the automotive, pharmaceutical, and energy sectors.

The objective of these meetings is to stimulate Chinese investment in Morocco, promote the kingdom’s assets in terms of investment, and encourage companies to seize opportunities for collaboration.

To consolidate cooperation between the two friendly countries and raise their level of cooperation to a higher level, the roadshow’s second venue will be the capital Beijing, where high-level bilateral meetings will take place with the leaders of Chinese institutions, including the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of South-West Asia and North Africa, as well as the Minister of Commerce.

Several Chinese economic operators, namely Huawei, Citic Dicastal, CRBE, Covec, ZTE, China Exim Bank, and Bank of China are in search of a competitive platform and a favorable business climate and Morocco is already attracting their interest.

According to World Bank estimates, the potential for relocating Chinese jobs could reach 85 million, while its former chief economist, Justin Lin, confirmed that about 10 percent of jobs could go to Africa, of which Morocco could get a big share.

Thanks to its strategic location, Morocco offers ample opportunities for Chinese investment, not only as a gateway to the African continent, but also to Europe and North America.
