Barshim soars to make asian history in doha

Qatar’s champion athlete and Olympic bronze medalist Mutaz Essa Barshim once again confirmed his ratings as one of the stars to watch for at the Rio Olympics by winning his fourth consecutive Asian indoor gold in high jump a continental record at the Aspire Dome on Friday.

Barshim, #whatgravity as his famous hashtag on social media reads, defied gravity as he conveniently cleared 2.35m to claim the gold in his discipline on the opening day of the 7th Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Doha.

All eyes had been on the national record and Asian record holder with a best mark of 2.43m on the day and the gangling 6ft tall, 25-year-old Qatari, did not disappoint with his inspiring performance to set the state-of-the-art facility buzzing with roars of excitement from the crowd.
