Government to pump cash into railways
The government has announced new cash for the Swedish railways. The money, to be spent on track maintenance, will form part of the Spring supplementary budget next week.

SEK 620 million is to be set aside this year, and SEK 1.24 billion a year annually for three years after that.

“Our aim is to have more reliable railways in the near future”, Finance Minister Magdalena Andersson told news agency TT.

The government had already stated that it felt that the railways were in need of increased maintenance, and Green Party spokesman Gustav Fridolin claims train delays and cancellations caused by the problematic tracks cost the Swedish economy SEK 5 billion a year.
