Is the Bitcoin Ordinals Protocol in Danger? It has been included in the list of cyber security threats
Bitcoin developer Luke Dashzer has said that he has nothing to do with the Bitcoin Ordinals protocol being flagged as a cybersecurity risk on the NVD list. This news is refuted by an entry on the X website dated 6 December. That’s when Luke Dashzer raised the alarm about a security flaw that could “spam the blockchain network.” Is the Bitcoin Ordinals Protocol in Danger?

Are Bitcoin Ordinals in Danger? Developer Dashjr has refused to add protocols to NVD
NVD, or Native Vulnerability Database, is a place for organized storage of cybersecurity data. It is somewhat like a database containing all the threats in cyberspace. Such databases contain faulty or weak protocols or code that may pose a threat. It turns out that Bitcoin “Inscription” is included as a cybersecurity threat in both the NVD and similar CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures) lists. Bitcoin Ordinals supporters were quick to link the appearance of “inscriptions” on the NVD and CVE lists with Luca Daszczer’s December 6 entry.

The developer himself admitted on the X website that he had nothing to do with marking Bitcoin Inscriptions as a cybersecurity vulnerability. It is worth noting that on December 11, “Inscription” appeared on the updated NVD chart with a medium base score of 5.3. The scale in NVD is 0-10 points.

The debate over Bitcoin ordinals continues
As a reminder, it is worth remembering what Bitcoin ordinals are and why they cause so much controversy in the cryptocurrency community. Well, the Ordinals protocol allows you to enter additional information directly on Satoshi, that is, a constituent part of Bitcoin (1 BTC is 100,000,000 Satoshi). Thanks to the Ordinals protocol, it is therefore possible to create NFT tokens on the Bitcoin blockchain. It is worth adding that BRC-20 tokens have recently enjoyed ever-increasing interest, a perfect example of which was the ORDI token, which will reach a capitalization of US$1 billion.

Interestingly, Luca Dashajr’s post condemning the protocol appeared in response to this fact. The inclusion of Bitcoin Inscription, i.e. the Ordinals Protocol, in the NFT list intensified the discussion regarding the validity of NFTs created on the Bitcoin network. To Bitcoin purists, this is unimaginable and they consider the Ordinals Protocol a clear waste of the BTC network’s potential. Proponents of the protocol emphasize that the network must adapt to new challenges and evolve with the cryptocurrency market and user demand. At this point the continued interest itself appears to be a threat to Bitcoin ordinals.
