The State of Qatar stressed the need for the International Court of Justice to consider all opinions that consider the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories illegal, illegitimate and based on apartheid, stressing that ending this regime requires establishing a situation that gives the Palestinians their rights.
She considered that the credibility of international law depends on the court’s decision and opinion, pointing out that the court has jurisdiction, and there is no reason to refuse to provide its opinion.
In the State’s plea before the Court in the advisory sessions on Palestine in The Hague yesterday, His Excellency Dr. Mutlaq bin Majid Al-Qahtani, the representative of the State of Qatar to the International Court of Justice, expressed the State of Qatar’s rejection of double standards, stressing the necessity of applying international law to everyone.
He stressed that the situation in Gaza is linked to the work of the court, and that the court’s powers are consistent with the situation in the Strip even before October 7, explaining that the situation in the West Bank is no less bad than the situation in Gaza.
He also noted that Israel divides the Palestinians, isolates them, impedes their movements and daily activities, and isolates the residents of Gaza from the world since 2007. It has imposed a system of inspection to which thousands of Palestinians are subjected daily, in addition to imposing an unprecedented siege on all residents of the West Bank, pointing to the practice of settlers with the support of Occupation authorities violence against Palestinians, at a time when Israeli forces target Palestinians in the West Bank with aircraft and missiles.
His Excellency stated that what Israel is doing confirms that the situation in Palestine is considered the greatest threat to international security, and that the court must consider the repercussions of Israel’s practices that must stop, highlighting that Israel’s illegal practices are not a coincidence, especially since it has obstructed all peaceful solutions and continues to occupy the lands.
