A man from Jordan has been sentenced to 3 years in prison by a Doha Criminal Court for forging of documents. The honourable court also ordered that the man be deported from the country after serving his sentence.
The man had reportedly forged two educational documents for posing that he had a PhD degree from Jordan University.
According to the local Arabic daily Arrayah, the defendant had submitted five educational certificates for the purpose of attestation at the department of the Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs and upon the scrutiny of the documents the Ministry’s employees discovered that at least two of them had been forged, the forged documents claimed that the defendant was doctoral degree holder.
Investigations into the matter by competent authorities established the guilt of the defendant beyond reasonable doubt.
According to Qatari law, forging an official instrument shall be punishable by imprisonment for a period not exceeding 10 years. If a public employee commits forgery during or due to his job, he is convicted to no more than 15 years in prison. Forging a private instrument/unofficial document shall be punishable by three years imprisonment.
