PM calls for rationalisation of power and water consumption

Under the patronage of the Emir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani attended the fourth annual celebration of the National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed) on Sunday.

The PM said the Tarsheed celebration is a proof that Qatar continues to achieve comprehensive development that contribute to building a modern state, realising the four pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 2011-16.

The PM said the celebration sheds light on the Tarsheed initiative, which was launched in April 2012 by the Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa), concurrently with the World Earth Day, which aims to encourage the dissemination of culture, technology, legislation and regulations relating to promote rational and efficient use of energy and renewable energy in Qatar.

The PM said the efforts of Qatar in the field of conservation and energy efficiency keep pace with global interest in sustainable development, environment preservation, proper management of vital resources and wealth.

The PM said the positive results of Tarsheed in reducing the per capita electricity and water consumption by 14 percent and 17 percent, respectively, provide the motive to continue support to this programme to achieve its ultimate objectives.

The PM called on Qatar’s citizens and residents to cooperate in the rationalisation of electricity and water consumption, considering that it is a national and religious responsibility to maintain natural resources.
