Makkah, November 17 (QNA) – Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs HE Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi said that the targeting of Houthi militias and forces of Ali Abdullah Saleh to Makkah Al Mukkaramah with ballistic missile on October 27, was a flagrant defiance and dangerous provocation to the feelings of the Islamic nation as a whole.
Addressing an emergency meeting of foreign ministers of member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Makkah , HE the Minister said that the State of Qatar had expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of this heinous crime, which represents clear evidence of the continuation of the Houthi militias and the forces of Ali Abdullah Saleh and their supporters’ violations, and their refusal to abide by the international community resolutions and their undermining implementation of the truce and all efforts to reach a political solution to the crisis in Yemen.
HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs stressed Qatar’s firm stance in support of the tireless efforts undertaken by the Alliance to support the Legitimacy in Yemen led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in order to achieve peace, security and stability in Yemen, accordance with the Gulf initiative, the outputs of the national dialogue and the resolutions of the United Nations, including the Security Council resolution 2216.
He also stressed the need to strengthen the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) pivotal role in raising the level of cooperation and the Islamic integration, according to its principles and its lofty goals, including the multiple and various initiatives to achieve the hopes of the Islamic nation, and the protection of holy sites and sanctities of any internal or external violations and to enhance cooperation and solidarity among Member States by enhancing its effectiveness in order to become a crucial player in the regional and international developments.
HE the Minister said that OIC was and still since its inception as an integral part of the Muslim community effort to achieve peace, development and the aspirations of its people. He reiterated Qatar’s commitment to the lofty goals of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and to support its activities in the field of raising the level of cooperation among the Member States in order to strengthen its role and its existence in the midst of international developments.
HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs praised the tangible efforts made by HE Dr. Iyad Madani, during the period of his leadership of the OIC General Secretariat, and the achievements and contributions he had made to enrich the work of the organization, and wished him all success.
He also stressed Qatar’s support for the candidate of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia HE Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al Othaimeen to the post of General Secretary of the organization and in the tasks entrusted to him to achieve the goals and aspirations of the Islamic peoples, pointing out that he has the competence and experience to lead the OIC Secretariat towards more achievements and successes.
