Qatar’s Hassan, Garni win gold, set new 1500, 400m records
The duo of Abdalelah Haroun Hassan and Mohamad al Garni of Qatar turned up in style at the ongoing 7th Asian Indoor Athletics Championships by winning their respective disciplines with championship records at the Aspire Dome on Saturday.
While 24-year-old Garni, the reigning champion posted an impressive 3:36.35s in the 1500m men’s race to secure the country’s second gold medal after high jumper Mutaz Essa Barshim’s opening day performance, Hassan struck the third gold for Qatar in the 400m with a fine run of 45.88s.
With the performance, Garni bettered the 3:40.86 set by Qatar’s Kamal Ali Thamer at the same venue in 2008.
