Qatari experts and officials revealed the scenes of the idea of Qatar’s candidacy to host the 2022 World Cup, noting that it was like a dream that is impossible to implement, but with the insistence of the Qatari leadership, it was implemented and succeeded in winning the honor of hosting the tournament.

His Excellency Mohamed bin Hammam, former president of the Asian Federation, said – in statements to Al-Kas TV – “We had no idea about hosting the World Cup, and in late December of 2006 we were at a dinner party at Al-Wajba Palace, and we had Mr. Blatter, the former FIFA president, as our guest in Doha, and we were surprised. We all know that His Highness, the Father Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, tells him about his desire for Qatar to host one of the World Cup.”
He added: “There has become a conversation and we have started working on the issue in a working group that includes His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the country, and His Highness Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, the personal representative of His Highness, and we set out to arrange the preparation.”
Bin Hammam explained: “This is the nature of His Highness the Father Emir who plans and does not waste time and storms the field.”
For his part, Saad Al-Rumaihi, head of the Qatar Press Center, confirmed that His Highness the Father Emir was behind the idea of Qatar hosting the World Cup, explaining that His Highness had ambitions to turn Doha into the capital of sports, not Arab but international, and among these ideas was hosting the World Championship.
Al-Rumaihi said: “I am one of the people who watched this dream as if it was impossible to come true, but the nature of the political leadership in Qatar is solid in attitudes and courage in decision-making does not recognize something called hesitation, and when it comes with hope, it comes with confidence.”
He added that there is a prominent role in this context for His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the country, and His Highness Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, the personal representative of His Highness the Emir, in transforming this idea into a tangible reality.
In turn, Nasser Al-Khater, CEO of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, spoke about receiving a phone call in March 2009 from Hassan Al-Thawadi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, who was responsible and supervising Qatar’s hosting of the World Cup, and I replied to him: “Any World Cup.” And what is the goal?..Can Qatar host a tournament of this size?. He responded to me that the instructions came to prepare the hosting file, and I want you to be part of the work team.
