Iran is once again denying aiding Yemen’s Houthi rebels. A commander in Iran’s Revolutionary Guard says the Houthis are independent in making their operational and strategic decisions. This comes one day after the U.S. launched a wave of airstrikes against the militant group.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Sunday that the U.S. will no longer tolerate the Houthis, “exacting a toll system in one of the most important shipping lanes in the world.”
“There’s no way the Houthis would have the ability to do this kind of thing unless they had support from Iran,” Rubio added.
Meanwhile, Houthi leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi said, “Now, we will meet escalation with escalation,” adding that Yemen’s Houthi militants will target U.S. ships in the Red Sea as long as the U.S. continues its attacks on Yemen.
