Doha: The Office of Faculty and Instructional Development (OFID) at Qatar University (QU) organised on January 16 the 9th OFID Day under the theme “Promoting Learner-Centered Education”.
The event aimed to bring together faculty members across QU colleges and departments to share their experience and explore opportunities to promote learner-centered education.
Attendees included QU Vice-President for Academic Affairs Dr Omar Al Ansari (pictured), OFID Director Dr Mohamed Ayari, Dean of the School of Software & Electrical Engineering at Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne Australia, Professor Alex Stojcevski, and over 300 faculty members across QU.
The event’s program featured three concurrent sessions which included five workshops and seven seminars presented by professors from the Colleges of Education, Engineering, Arts and Sciences, College of Medicine, College of Business and Economics and College of Sharia and Islamic Studies, in addition to other members of the teaching staff of QU.
They discussed issues related to a wide range of topics such as “PBL and its implementation in practice”, “Teaching Design Project in Introductory Engineering Course Using Virtual Reality”, “Self-Regulated Learning: From Theory to Practical Application”, “QU Students: Who are they and What Are They Thinking?”, and “How to Flip your Classroom?”, among many others.
In his remarks, Dr Omar Al-Ansari said: “QU places the learning process at the heart of its mission and new strategy. The University is committed to graduate highly qualified competencies who are capable to play an effective role in the labor market.
He added: “The 9th OFID Day provides a significant platform to discuss and identify the learner-centered education and to explore the student engagement in the learning process, the teacher-student interaction, and the application of the learner-centered education within classrooms that include a large number of students.”
